My Story

I grew up in the oilfields of West TX going to school at both Texas Tech and the University of Texas (Permian Basin Campus) for biochemistry resolved to become a uber wealthy surgeon. Relentlessly pursuing the American Dream I graduated with honours in 1999 but by that time God rescued me and ruined me. He rescued me from my rebellion and death and ruined me for anything else besides the vocational ministry. I am forever thankful.

I met and married my bride Paula in that pivotal season and since that season, we have been a part of campus ministry and church planting for 20 years in Texas, Florida, and Tennessee.

Originally, we planted church-based campus ministries on five different campuses alongside young church plants, but In 2009-2010 God began to enlarge our passion to not only reach students but plant Gospel-centered churches in college towns. Our burden was heavy for healthy churches that understood the value, nature, dangers, and intricacies of the university and the towns they are in.

This heavy burden landed us in Knoxville in 2011 planting Legacy Church from our living room with another devoted core family. Our hope and dream was to collect a people who were changed by the Gospel and on God’s mission to serve each other and reach the city. God has been sweet to us, and in short time has brought many to himself and allowed us to grow from a living room.

After launching in 2011, we became members of the Acts29 Church Planting Network in which I am currently invested in assessing and coaching other potential planters, developing our East TN region, as well as planting more churches in the Knoxville area. We believe the best way to change a city is to plant healthy church-planting churches. Again, God has been sweet to us and we will soon be planting more churches.

By God’s grace, I also work with other pastors and leaders in the areas of self-care and leadership health. This is in hopes of seeing more pastors and leaders endure and enjoy their role and calling in a healthy manner rather than burn-out.

My prayer for Legacy Church is…

God, I pray that you lead Knoxville to glorify you by simply enjoying you deeply. I ask that you turn this city to you and that it experiences the freedom and truth of your good news.
